Intellisteer Type S f/Straight Shaft Helms f/Cable Steered Boats w/Dash Mounted Wheel - INTTYPES

I wanted to have remote steering ability, so this is the unit I purchased. I was replacing a rack and pinon manual steering system, so I had to replace the existing steering cable with a Uflex M66. That was the most time consuming and difficult part. Reason was most all electrical wire runs were zip tied to the old steering cable and some ties were hidden behind wall panels, which had to be removed then resealed. The installation of the Intellisteer unit was easy and straight forward. It fit in the old steering hole, so didn't need to cut more holes or enlarge. Just drill three new screw holes. The instructions also indicated that the motor polarity may need to be reversed based on how your steering system is setup. So in my case, they had to be reversed. Not a big problem and the fix only took a few minutes. The unit works great and now I can work on setting out my down-rigger and control the steering from the stern of the boat. A happy fisherman.
