Because this rod holder is tightened from underneath using a large hex nut, standard wrenches often won't fit in the tight space between the hull and the liner. It is highly recommended to use the C.E. Smith 53679 Installation Socket to properly torque the unit and ensure a watertight seal against the gunnel.
