tricky but DIY doable

First - 5 stars for AnchorExpress for standing by me for a steep learning curve on this install. Fantastic customer service there. Main advice for the dinosaur NMEA 0183 crowd- ignore the Garmin manual in the AIS800 box and download the updated one online. Subtle differences but essential in the wiring diagram wording - the yellow wire is neither auxiliary nor optional. Next - Be sure your MMSI is sorted in advance. If you are going foreign you will be assigned a new one by the FCC. Be prepared to send other devises off for factory MMSI resets. Every device on your network has to be of the same MMSI to avoid conflict. Finally, if 0183 interfacing with a Garmn plotter, call garmin and get the NMEA wire translation. It's only mostly intuitive. This and the yellow ground wire are probably non issues if you use the NEMA 2000 network connection option.
