Note: The thermostat (the plastic control box that plugs into the element) is usually sold separately. If your heater tripped the "high-limit" reset button and won't restart, you should inspect both the element and the thermostat.

Installation Safety Pro-Tips

1. POWER OFF: Always disconnect the AC breaker and ensure the water heater is powered down before attempting replacement.

2. Drain the Tank: You must drain the water heater below the level of the element before removal to avoid flooding your engine room or locker.

3. The "Dry-Fire" Rule: Once the new element is installed, fill the tank completely and open a hot water faucet until all air is bled from the lines before turning the power back on. Turning the power on to a dry tank will destroy the new element in seconds.

4. Scaling Prevention: If your old element was covered in white crust (calcium), consider installing a water softener or flushing your tank annually to extend the life of the new element.
